The basic commands to teach your dog are sit, stay and come. You and your dog will become joined by these basic commands for life. When you take your dog out you don't want him to be running berserk in the open, you would rather exhibit him as the most well behaved dog that you think he is.

Do you get embarrassed when your dog licks people when you are outdoors? Can't understand why your dog runs away from you in the reserve while your friend's pet quickly returns to them?

If you really want your pet to behave properly then you should take him to a dog obedience training course. Your dog can discover how to be well mannered in a matter of weeks with the right sort of attention, dedication and patience.

No matter where you live, you will find a dog obedience training facility nearby, so if you don't know how to train your puppy there is always help available from other dog handlers at the training course. You will not just be training your puppy you will be getting to be friends with him and getting him used to being around others.

Treats are a great way to teach your dog obedience; you can reward him with a treat when he obeys your command, or If he refuses to obey then he misses out on a treat. There is no point shouting at your dog as he will only become scared of you and you must avoid that at all costs, you need to encourage a close relationship with him. Dogs are man's best friend, depending upon how you treat them.

When doing your basic dog training make sure that you conduct the lessons away from any diversions like his toys or play things. Take him to a quiet beach or vacant area that maybe nearby, where there is plenty of free space. Teaching the sit command is fairly easy, tell your dog to sit, then place one hand under his jaw and your other hand on his back near the tail bone, gently tilt his head up and push his rear end down, when it is down say sit and tell him he's a good boy, then reward him with a treat.

After you have gone through this procedure several times your dog will obey your order and sit, because he understands that by obeying you he will be compensated and also because he can sense that you are delighted with his efforts. Eventually your dog will comply with your commands automatically, and the treats will no longer be necessary.

Puppies are docile, lovable and inquisitive, so it is not difficult to make friends with them and show them how to behave in a proper manner. You can teach your dog from any age but the younger you start the better, as the older a dog gets the less inclined he is to learn, so teaching him new commands is not easy.
